The first GRS industry solution set the standard: in 2010, GRS Batterien developed and introduced the concept of the voluntary take-back of drive batteries from e-bikes together with the German Two-Wheeler Industry Association (ZIV). Since 2019, this industry solution has been available to all manufacturers of small electric vehicles and is the ideal solution for manufacturers of e-bikes, e-scooters, e-motorcycles, Segways and other similar sized vehicles. Safety for All Involved
For manufacturers and importers of small electric vehicles, we take over the nationwide battery collection, recycling and authority reporting obligations. We provide specialist dealers, who are obliged to take back batteries free of charge, with the required equipment, such as collection containers, information posters and letters on the correct and safe handling of Li-Ion batteries classified as hazardous goods. Waste lithium batteries can be safely stored in the containers provided by us. The conveyance is carried out by selected and trained service providers. All batteries taken over by us are properly recycled according to the highest environmental standards.

On behalf of manufacturers or their authorised representatives, we offer distributors and primary treatment facilities for old electrical equipment a reasonable and charge-free possibility to take back their batteries. As part of our industry solutions and on request of our customers, we supply collection containers and ensure that all batteries collected by the collection points are properly recycled.

Distributors are obliged to take back spent batteries from end users. For the cost-free take-back of batteries in or around the immediate vicinity of the retail outlet, we supply collection containers to distributors as part of our industry solutions or at customer's request, and collect filled containers for recycling.

We guarantee that collected and identifiable waste batteries are treated and recycled using state of the art techniques, ensuring prescribed recycling efficiencies are achieved or exceeded.

We prepare an annual performance review for submission to the Federal Environment Agency. Reported metrics include the mass of batteries we have taken back and recycled on behalf of our customers, the collection and recycling rate as well as the qualitative and quantitative recycling and disposal results.
